CHARLOTTE GUIDE
Insurance notes after Charlotte water damage
This is not advice about what your policy covers. It’s a documentation checklist so you’re not reconstructing a flood from memory a week later.
Call your carrier early
Many policies expect prompt notice. Ask what they need photographed and whether you’re expected to hire a preferred vendor.
Inventory soft goods
List wet furniture, rugs and stored items room by room. Photos with a newspaper or phone-date visible help establish timing.
Separate emergency mitigation from upgrades
Extraction and drying are mitigation. New flooring you wanted anyway is a different conversation. Keep those invoices distinct.
We don’t interpret policies
Coverage for sudden supply-line failures vs. slow seepage vs. flood (often a separate policy) varies. Your agent or a public adjuster you choose—not this site—should interpret your contract.
